Artist Development: Staffordshire

STOKE-ON-TRENT | TAMWORTH | LICHFIELD | CANNOCK CHASE | STAFFORD | NEWCASTLE-UNDER-LYME

We will use this page to highlight what is going on in Staffordshire's visual arts scene. It will be a resource for artists but also a means by which TPWM can profile a place, offering links to activity in a regional, national and international context where possible.

STAFFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL ARTS SERVICE

The Arts Development team are responsible for the development and delivery of the County Council's Arts Policy. It works in partnership with key agencies throughout the County and the West Midlands to promote a sustainable service and invest in the locally based arts infrastructure.

They run an annual Community Arts Fund which helps fund arts activities that benefit the community and help to make arts accessible to everyone.

In May 2013 they published its list of experienced artists and organisations who are able to deliver community arts workshops and projects in Staffordshire. The document can be downloaded here.

Airspace Graduate Residency scheme

AirSpace Gallery offers a Graduate Residency Scheme for graduting students from BA and MA Fine Art Courses.

"I would definitely recommend the residency to other artists looking for opportunities after University. The residency offers the valuable debut solo show opportunity artists dream of as well as a supportive artist community that makes the transition from University to practicing artist positive, productive and enjoyable."

 - Adam Grüning, Graduate Residency Artist 2012.

Appetite

Appetite aims to get more people in Stoke-on-Trent to experience and be inspired by the arts. Appetite’s main focus is working with community groups across the area to find out ‘what the people of Stoke-on-Trent really want from the arts? Through this consultation Appetite will then identify community hubs to work with throughout the programme. These hubs will work closely with our Appetite Builders to develop new ideas, skills and experiences so people can then go on to develop their own art events for the people of Stoke-on-Trent.

MAJESTIC STUDIOS

Majestic Studios are based in the center of Stoke-on-Trent with many large studio spaces and a contemporary art gallery. Forming a creative environment and a supportive art network, they aim to provide space and opportunities for local artists, international artists and recent graduates.
